Nijmegen is a 2000 year old city made up mostly of new buildings. The town was bombed twice in 1944, and “there were a lot of very rigorous city planners in the 1950s, 60’s and 70’s who finished what the Americans and Germans started” (source: Wikipedia). One of the few pieces of pre-modern architecture remaining is a ruined imperial chapel. It’s in the center of a park in the center of town.

Right next to it is this incredibly unkempt pathway. Leaves have fallen and no one has raked them. Shrubs and weeds look like they’ve grown for months without trimming.
